This is a guide that shows how to download, install and license SPSS Statistics 23 on a private Mac.

On client (hosted) Mac computers, please use Managed Software Center.

SPSS for Mac is sometimes distributed under different names, such as 'SPSS Installer', 'SPSS16', 'SPSS 11'. Our built-in antivirus scanned this Mac download and rated it as 100% safe. The most popular versions of the application are 22.0, 21.0 and 20.0. For SPSS versions 18-21, download and install the SPSS-Python Plugin. For SPSS 22+, this plugin is installed by default. For SPSS 22+, this plugin is installed by default. Download the CEM for SPSS extension bundle.

Please do the following to download IBM SPSS Statistics 23:

  1. Log into: https://tjinfo.uib.no/program
  2. Select SPSS from the list of programs.
  3. Choose SPSS_Statistics_23_mac.zip, and click Send.
  4. The installation file is added to Downloads.


Installation

Please do the following to install IBM SPSS Statistics 23:

  1. Click on the downloaded SPSS files, which is then verified and opened.
  2. Double click SPSS_Statistics_Installer. Wait for the computer to verify the installer file.
  3. Click Open, if/when asked if you are sure.
  4. Type the username and password of an administrator account on the computer, before you click Install Helper.
  5. Choose the language you want, and click OK.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Choose Authorized User License and click Next.
  8. Choose I accept the terms in the license agreement and click Next.
  9. Type in your name and the name of you organization (UiB).
    A small pop-up window will appear, when you click on the field you want to change. Click Next when finished.
  10. Choose Yes or No to decide if Essentials for Python should be installed or not. Then click Next.
  11. The installer will choose a place to install the program. You can change this, if you want to, before you click Next.
  12. Click Install.
  13. Click Done to complete the installation.

Licensing

Please do the following to get the code:

  1. Log into: https://tjinfo.uib.no/program
  2. Select SPSS from the list of programs.
  3. Choose Installasjonskoder for SPSS an click Send.
  4. Copy the SPSS 23 license code.

Please do the following to add the code to the SPSS 23 software on your computer:

You should be logged in as an administrator when performing these steps!

  1. Open Finder.
  2. Go to Applications.
  3. Find and open the folder 'IBM'-->'SPSS'-->'Statistics'-->'23'.
  4. Doule click SPSS Statistics License Authorization Wizard.
  5. Click Next.
  6. If the window below appears, it means you are not logged in as an administrator. Please log out, log in as an administrator and repeat steps 1-5 from this list.
  7. Choose License my product now and click Next.
  8. Paste in the licence code, before clicking Next.
  9. Please also click Next in the window called Internet Authorization Status.
  10. Click Finish in the window called Licensing Completed.

  1. Find your version of SPSS (18 through 24).

  2. Install the required version of R for your version of R from the following links:

    • SPSS 18 (2.8.x): MacWindows
    • SPSS 19 (R 2.10.x): MacWindows
    • SPSS 20 (R 2.12.x): MacWindows
    • SPSS 21 (R 2.14.x): MacWindows
    • SPSS 22 (R 2.15.x): MacWindows
    • SPSS 23 (R 3.1.x): Mac OS X (10.9+)Mac OS X (10.6-10.8)Windows
    • SPSS 24 (R 3.2.x): MacWindows

  3. Download and install the SPSS-R Plugin. You can find the relevant installer for your version of SPSS at this Github page. This blog post from IBM also has more information on installing the R plugin.

  4. For SPSS versions 18-21, download and install the SPSS-Python Plugin. For SPSS 22+, this plugin is installed by default.

  5. Download the CEM for SPSS extension bundle:

  6. Open SPSS, go to 'Utilities > Extension Bundles > Install Extension Bundle...' and direct the dialog box to the 'cem.spe' file you downloaded.

  7. Restart SPSS and you should see a 'CEM' command under 'Analyze' (see pictures below).
